Dear Mom and Dad,
Hope you two are doing well. As usual, things are going well here in Tanzania. I’m eating well, sleeping well, working hard, and playing hard. We just got back from a 3 day safari. We saw a lot of animals and beautiful nature. At night, the hyenas would come into our camp, and keep everyone up with their scary laughing. Wild elephants were only about a stone’s throw away from our campsite. I believe that you two would’ve enjoyed the trip.
It was back to work today. I spent the day working with a pediatric ophthalmologist seeing a lot of cases of children with congenital vision problems. About every third patient or so came in with an unfixable, permanent problem. A child being told that his vision problem is permanent is very sad.
During most afternoons after work, today included, I walk to a nearby orphanage and play with the kids there. This will probably be a regular activity for me this week. Tomorrow, I’m heading back into town to negotiate with a travel agent concerning the Kilimanjaro climb.
