4.6.2011

So I am sick.  Other than eating out last night, and all the hours in the clinic, I can’t think of the cause.  Getting sick in this country makes me nervous.  With all the potential pathogens circulating in the air and living inside pesky, biting insects, the differential list grows larger.  As a future physician, this is a great opportunity to practice on myself:

Symptoms (1 day history)
Sore throat
“head feels warm”
Body aches
Weakness
Decrease in appetite
Some sneezing
No vomiting/nausea
No diarrhea

Additional info
Taking malarone for malaria prophylaxis.  (been 100% compliant)
Been very careful about monitoring personal water supply
Housemate had diagnosed primary EBV infection a month ago

Notes:
Unless this is a seriously resistant strain of malaria (knock on wood), the likelihood of malaria is low.  Without any significant GI problems and my close monitoring of my water intake (also took live oral typhoid vaccine), typhoid fever moves lower on the differential.  I really hope it is not mono.  I’ve been careful about not sharing anything with that housemate, but it’s not perfect.    TB is a definite possibility.  In which case, I hope I’m not the 10% that later develop active TB.
This is probably some random viral infection that will resolve itself quietly in a couple days.
